Rehabilitation from the Inside Out:
Focus on Nutrition

There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to the nutritional requirements of the wide variety of mammals and birds taken in by wildlife rehabilitators so this year we’ll be focusing all things “food”.  The weekend starts on Friday with the IWRC’s instructor-led Wildlife Feeding and Nutrition course on Friday, October 7th (at the hotel; don’t forget that this class counts towards Michigan’s continuing education requirement).  Separate registration with the IWRC is required (class size is limited so register early) and may be done online (CLICK HERE).

Friday evening has been reserved for networking and a meet-and-greet that will include the Michigan DNR.

We’ve packed Saturday with general and break-out sessions covering both general nutrition and species-specific topics, including a session on those pesky little critters that can have a negative impact on the ability to properly absorb nutrition – parasites.  Click HERE for a preview of the conference program; click HERE for the registration form.

Applications for the Kim Christo Memorial Scholarship Fund are now being accepted.  This is a needs-based scholarship and this year it will cover the cost of admission to the 2011 MWRA conference, including the Friday night icebreaker session, hotel accommodations on Friday night October 7TH at the Causeway Bay Hotel and all regular Saturday sessions, and breakfast and lunch.  Any MWRA member is eligible and licensure is not mandatory; licensed wildlife rehabilitators, their subpermittees or volunteers who are current MWRA members in good standing all qualify.  You may nominate yourself or someone you know.  Please CLICK HERE for the application form.

Hope to see you there!
